I have spent time on FB as an activist, trying to explain why donald j. trump is a danger to our country, megalomaniacal egomaniac in the exact place an egomaniac should NOT be. He has the attention span of a gnat and the temper of a mother cow alligator who’s hatchlings are being threatened, creeping along the swamp he’s trying to drain. And, only that cow (trump) can swim in that swamp.
It was all to not avail. Only the choir was saved by my preaching. Republicans refuse to believe facts. They’ve been brainwashed not to accept anything unless trump says it. I’ve been hitting my head against the wall.
I find it amazing that his followers believe the media lies when they simply use trump’s OWN TWEETS.
Even in this morning’s paper, one Letter to the Editor said, “What I am hoping for in 2018 is that the American public begins to see how Democrat-biased 90 percent of the news media are, including the Star, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, ABC, CBS, NBC, The New York Times, Washington Post, The Associated Press, USA Today, Time and Newsweek magazines, etc. These broadcasts and publications are no longer just reporters of the news but are advocates of Democrat policies.
They are filled with journalists, many of them millennials, who have been indoctrinated in liberal ideology by their professors in college. It is unfair and unjust to the American people, the legislative process, and to the election process when the news media is so overwhelmingly biased, which has great sway over the minds of the not so informed public! I am sure that the Founding Fathers never meant for the First Amendment's freedom of the press to be an extension of and advocate for a political party.”
This is the mindset of the indoctrinated. Unaware that all the media has to do is reprint trump’s OWN TWEETS…nothing more. They are racist, sexist, egregious, inflammatory, hateful, biased, uninformed, uneducated, misstated, lies, obfuscating and every other single adjective you can use. No commentary need be given by the ‘so-called- biased, liberal media.’ trump does it all by himself.
Yet these people DO NOT BELIEVE THAT. I have given up trying to figure out why. So should we.
We need to begin thinking of this ‘glitch’ in our history that historians will try to explain away 75 to 100 years from now, as we have tried to explain away the Slavery, Civil War, the Viet Nam War, Herbert Hoover, Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge, Prohibition, Segregation, Joe McCarthy, 1929 and so much more. Texas Republicans, who dominate the input into school reading materials, have written many of these, and more, OUT OF SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS.
We were in a much better place before the assassination of John Kennedy. I believe, had he lived, we would STILL be in a safe place, albeit, with a few problems.
I thank everyone who supported me and fought me. I’m afraid, in my anger, at times, I may have alienated friends and allies due to the lack of clarity in writing, allowing for a reason to misunderstand what I wrote. Many times, I had to re-read my post to see why friends were upset, only to find a comma or misused word that changed my original intent. I use a lot of commas to write as if I were speaking (something I was taught in school in the middle last century - BOY, that sounds old).
I also write long posts. I realize they should be on my post, and some have been. Much shorter versions have also been published in Letters-to-the-Editor. About 8 or 9 times per year. Forgive that as well. It’s just, I have so much to say. Thank you for reading those diatribes.
I thank you, over and over, for being my friends.
Now, I’ve kicked this addiction. Back to painting and writing. Support LIVE THEATRE. Any LIVE THEATRE. But, especially, local community and non-profit theatres. IT IS REAL. It will make you think. Keep your minds open. and remember, in the words of Jack Webb, “Just the facts.”
