BAD MATH AND BAD MOUTH PROP UP TRUMP’S WALL

President Obama said,” a country surrounded by walls only imprisons themselves”.

Senator John McCain said, “we became the most powerful nation in the world by tearing down walls, not building them”.

President Reagan said, “tear down that wall”

In 1963, JFK made a trip to El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico to settle a border dispute that had gone on for almost 100 years and involved “the Chamizal” a piece of land that bordered the Rio Grande. The land was originally on the Mexico side but during a flood the river changed its course as rivers do. This was a political decision where Presidents of both countries and other dignitaries converged and decided to give the land back to Mexico where it belonged. This was not a small piece of property, it was about 600 acres. The Chamizal is now a National Monument. Ostensibly, we then had a President who could work with others even LBJ was involved. I was there, also to view this memorable occasion.

After many visits to Europe, the last one was to Berlin where I was able to speak to those who grew up behind the Communist wall and had no vision of the other side. This became a horrific silence for them as children who had family and friends on the other side. Least we forget the emotional cost of a wall and their loss of friends and relatives. We now have Trump who cares little for individual freedom, who lied about the cost, has no respect for the migration of animals and no concept of the repercussions on human life around the Rio Grande. Using Eminent Domain as a tool for his own prurient needs may not be consequential for this President but is a financial loss for those who live on the border, have land, homes, or ranches and grow produce or raise cattle. No border state wants a wall, not even Texas. If what’s left of Trump’s 19% of follower’s live in Iowa, coal mining states, other mid-western states, New England, etc. the choice should not be up to them as they do not live anywhere that they will lose their sunrise, sunset, open view and ability to see or speak with their Hispanic neighbors (do not forget the Jaguar or other migrating animals).

MOST OF ALL, OUR DACA CHILDREN ARE NOT CHATTEL, NOR CATTLE TO BE EXCHANGED FOR AN INANIMATE OBJECT.  However, aside from the Human Aspect, now, let us look at the math. The MIT Brainiest, in 2017, figured the actual cost of the wall which is about twice as much as Trump’s figure of $18 billion, sufficient enough on its own to provide Healthcare for All. MIT began with a figure of 2000 mile wall running about half the border. Trump envisions a wall which already covers 653 miles. Without going any further and just figuring a 1000 mile wall with Trump’s original promise of a height of 50 feet which would require at least 10 feet below ground would in 2015 cost about $38 billion and much higher now and we might want to add a neon sign with Trump’s name, LOL. Of course this contains cost of labor, steel reinforcement, volume of concrete, etc. However, Trump may change his mind and choose a fence, instead. We can figure it will be twice as much as our illterate President thinks. Rivers change course all the time (see Chamizal above). So foolish! Under Obama, border crossing was lowered to 85% protected. Trump said he lowered crossing 80% so that means we have no one coming across. Ostensibly, it will never be 100%. Why has no one asked the proponents of border security, what they mean by “securing the border.” We have never had to put up a wall to keep others in or out! Why now? Freedom has many difficulties, and democracy is not perfect but we have never had to put up a wall to keep our people in or others out. A wall whether it keeps others out it still keeps you in. Ask your legislators if they would treat their own children the way they are treating the DACA children whom they expected to crawl over the border themselves. Remember who is responsible, it’s not the children, “the sins of the fathers” we all are aware of the meaning. In closing-------
“Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to a teen age boy”    P.J. O’Rourke               I think you get it!

Education is the key to civility

Republicans have been in a “war” against public education for many decades; invariably against funding to support America’s most vital institution(s).  Techniques are to oppose state and Federal  initiatives to decrease taxes spent to support public schooling in states under their control; encourage charter schools owned by wealthy, private Republican donors; supporting anti-education individuals to “run” the State and Federal systems (DeVoss?); allow absurd tuition increases; closing schools in desperately needed areas; cutting educators’ salaries; lacking raises, pensions,  maintenance, supply, extracurricular activities, new books and supportive materials; and, much more. They profess their “support” of education; even falsely claiming to be the “party of education.” This includes K-12, H.S. and College/University levels.  Schoolbooks, such as those produced primarily by the Texas Republican State Board of Education, deny mention of significant historic...
I still have some people - not many - who support trump, as it turns out. Even those of my persuasion. They think trump is good for the U.S. because he supports Israel. I agree, that's great. And, despite what trump created with Obama's being a Muslim, born in Kenya, even Obama was supportive of Israel. Netanyahu was rude to Obama, even during the campaign which people forget about, and still, Obama was kind a respectful.  AGAIN, I say, trump's decision to back out of the Iranian deal would allow Iran to return to their Nuclear dreams, which is NOT good for Israel or the U.S. They would firstTHREATEN Israel often and Blackmail the U.S. That is common sense when you take time to think about it.

Trump is now somehow a religious idol

Some religious fanatics have officially gone bonkers. The far right have been pushing a meme for several years now that the amoral creature, conman, egomaniac, and bad person in the WH “has been sent by God to be ‘a vessel for the purposes of the faithful’ in the role of King of the United States of America,” according to Katherine Stewart.  A firefighter picks up a Bible in a moment of revelation and automatically turns to Isaiah 45. Agent Orange is also number 45. Coincidence? I think so. This disclosure is because Cyrus in Isaiah 45, is “saved” and becomes Emperor of Babylon, freeing the Jews. These Christian Nationalists, no relation to the saner version of ages past, believe the adulterer, misogynist, oaf in the White House, who is encouraging them, will save humanity.  Tony Perkins, Ralph Drollinger and V.P Mike Pence support it, as well. Deport them.
