Some people have shown more support for the Syrians immigrants than the French violence. This is my reply….
........ many, many people, me included, laid "wreaths" of support to the French on social media over the past few weeks. On Facebook, many changed their FB photos to replicate the French Flag in support of their troubles. But, we are a nation, born of immigrants. The little respect we still have in the world is due to our support of the downtrodden.
Donald Trump falsely claims Obama wants to bring in "hundreds of thousands of Syrians.” FALSE. A recent Letter in the Star even repeated this lie. Obama asked for 10,000 beginning next year. Carefully vetted. Actually, it will take two to three years before they are able to enter the U.S. Remember what Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty signify?
The enemy always wants the opposing country to change their ethics and beliefs. It’d be a victory for ISIS if we did that. We must show the world that we are strong, and no person or terrorist organization is going to make America give up it's beliefs.
We live our life, let them live theirs. Our forefathers left fear and persecution behind in England. We can empathize with the French for what they went through. Now, we can appreciate the Syrians as much as the Irish, Poles, Jews, Italians, Mexicans and all the OTHER ethnic groups who fled here to find freedom from fear. We cannot fall to fear.
